Biography

Alistair McKerchar has been with the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research since its formation in 1992, and with precursor New Zealand government departments from 1976‑1992. He has gathered experience on the hydrology of rivers throughout New Zealand, and on the impacts of water resource developments, particularly for power generation and irrigation. Particular interests are the application of regional methods for estimation of hydrological extremes and the influence of broad scale climate features such as the ENSO phenomenon on flow regimes.
