Biography

Research specialty

Marine invertebrate biology, ecology and fisheries, with direct application to resource management. Expertise and experience in leading survey, assessment, and fisheries ecology projects on inshore shellfish (especially scallops and clams). Research interests include how ecological factors affect key biological processes (i.e. recruitment, growth and mortality) that drive population productivity, how these processes vary in relation to habitat suitability, the influence of fishing and other anthropogenic effects, ecosystem approaches to fisheries management, the importance of spatial scale when investigating the dynamics of sedentary species and fisheries, and how advances in scientific methods and technology can provide new insights.
