Dairy farms produce milk and milk products that supply both the domestic and the overseas export markets.

Dairying is a large and important industry in Aotearoa with millions of dairy cattle producing around 20% of New Zealand’s total export income. Dairy production has increased in recent times with changing economic conditions and numerous dry stock farms converting to dairy. Dairy cattle numbers in the South Island have more than doubled in the last 20 years (NZ Statistics).
