Capsule slopes to a top with a sharp tip. Plant varies from lax to upright.
- Left: flower heads are on wide stems branching to 90° or bending down. Tepals are blunt and hooded, and capsules are brown. Juncus subnodulosus. [PDF 484 KB]
- Right: flower heads are on stems which branch at much less than 90°. Tepals are acute, without a hood, and capsules are brown to black. Juncus articulatus. [PDF 393 KB]
