The climate we predicted and what actually happened

Predicted rainfall: Rainfall is likely to be near normal in most regions, but near normal or below normal in the eastern South Island.

Outcome: For the North Island above normal rainfall fell in Auckland, the Corromandel Peninsular, northern Waikato, the Bay of Plenty, Hawkes Bay, eastern Wairarapa and Taranaki. Below normal rainfall fell in Northland, parts of Manuwatu and southern Waikato. For the South Island above normal rainfall fell along the east coast of the South Island, central Otago and Southland. Below normal rainfall fell in Stewart Island and the Buller District. Normal rainfall elsewhere.

Predicted air temperature: Above average temperatures are very likely across the country, over the three months of April to June as a whole.

Outcome: In the North Island above average temperatures were experienced in Northland, Auckland, the Bay of Plenty, Taranaki, Manuwatu, Kapiti and Wellington. Average temperatures were recorded elsewhere. Mostly above average temperatures were experienced in the South Island apart from parts of south Canterbury, Southland and Westland where near average temperatures occurred.
