NIWA's Newest Vessel - Ikatere 
NIWA has added a new vessel to its fleet; a $1.6 million coastal vessel named Ikatere. Ikatere, according to Maori and Polynesian mythology, is a fish god and the father of all sea creatures. The new vessel was named after an earlier vessel owned by the Marine Department and later the Fisheries Research Division.
