NIWA instrument systems is our consulting group that develops and fabricates custom instruments.

NIWA Instrument Systems provides a comprehensive supply and consultancy service for clients needing to monitor environmental conditions including hydrological, meteorological and other major parameters.

Instruments

We can supply a variety of instruments for a variety of needs – oceanographic, hydrologic, meteorologic:

  • ADCP Traveller: A self powered, remote controlled traveller that may be used to tow a floating ADCP such as the RDI StreamPro across a river at a constant speed. 
  • DOBIE: the intelligent wave gauge that provides onboard processing and real-time triggering
  • Ecologger for reliable, unattended, long-term monitoring of a wide range of environmental parameters
  • Electric Fishing Machine EFM300
  • Hydrologger 2001: a self-contained system for rainfall and water level measurements
  • Indoor Air Quality Stations: Small self contained station designed to monitor indoor quality parameters whilst delivering data via the integral telemetered data logger. 
  • POEM: a Pressure Operated Electronic Meter developed for gauging flooded rivers
  • Salinity Buoy: Self contained telemetered inshore buoy capable of being equiped with a wide range of marine sensors.
  • SDI Explorer: Tiny USB interface for any PC allowing access to any SDI-12 bus. 
  • SRIG: Smart Rain Intensity Gauge, measures rain by the drop as well as by the tradional 'tip' whilst providing either an in-built SDI12 serial data interface or an integral logger with cellular communications.
  • TIER2 weather station. For applications that do not require full climate station compliance these self contained units are solar powered with built in logger and cellular (or satellite) communications. In addition to teh core parameters (rain, wind, RH, BP , air temperature, solar radiation) a range of optional paremeters may be added such as soil moisture, sunshine hours etc.

Publications

Instrument Systems Update is a quarterly publication that takes a look at a selection of products, projects and activities that the Instrument Systems Group is involved in.

Software

  • Tideda – '...dependant...' This software package creates time series databases and is particularly suitable for processing environmental and hydrological data.
  • Flosys is telemetry software for a multi-user PC environment. Integrated with the Tideda database, Flosys controls the collection of data via radio or telephone networks.
