Sub-project deliverables

Science Centres: Energy

The Bioenergy Options for New Zealand project was initiated to consider the potential contribution of bioenergy to New Zealand’s energy future. This Scion lead project, is part of the EnergyScape portfolio of projects. The objective of this project is to identify a range of bioenergy options that could provide a meaningful contribution to New Zealand's energy future.  The deliverables from this project are identified below:

 40590

Situation analysis [6.1 MB] - This report identifies the options for realising bioenergy potential and determines the most appropriate areas of research for New Zealand to pursue.

 40591

Pathways analysis [4.1 MB] - This report undertakes economic, environmental and efficiency analysis of each of the identifies bioenergy pathways, and indentifies which have the most potential for realising a energy sustainable future for New Zealand.

 40592

Analysis of large-scale bioenergy from forestry [3.25 MB] -This report considers the potential nation-wide impacts of growing forests for energy through a preliminary assessment of the environmental, economica and land-use implications. The principal focus of this study is on the production of liquid fuels, since finding renewable options for transportation is recognised as one of the greatest challenges facing New Zealand.

Research and development strategy [2.7 MB] -This report considers the potential nation-wide impacts of growing forests for energy through a preliminary assessment of the environmental, economica and land-use implications. The principal focus of this study is on the production of liquid fuels, since finding renewable options for transportation is recognised as one of the greatest challenges facing New Zealand.
