Antarctic Aquatic Ecosystems
Science Centres: Coasts, Oceans
Funded by the Foundation for Research, Science and Technology and the Ministry of Fisheries.
Our Antarctic Aquatic Ecosystem programme has been running in various forms for over 10 years now. Until [WHICH YEAR?] we have focused on inland waters of the Ross Sea region, including lakes, streams and ponds. This year [WHICH YEAR?] new funding from the Ministry of Fisheries for work on marine biodiversity in the Ross Sea allowed us to include coastal marine ecosystems.
A new, integrated coastal marine project IceCUBE has therefore been initiated, while inland research has continued in collaboration the Cawthron Institute and the US McMurdo Dry Valleys programme (see notice board for web links).
In this update you can view a description of the new IceCUBE project and some recent results from Antarctica.
