Hydrological Modelling – Lumped Catchment Models
The course will introduce the principles and application of lumped catchment modelling. It will include both flood and recession modelling, and will take a simple approach, the sort of thing you could do in a spreadsheet. It will include snow melt, rainfall-runoff, and simple flow routing. It will not use an off-the-shelf modelling tool. The purpose of the course is to discuss principles that are relevant to a variety of modelling approaches (suitability of model approach to available data, process representation, estimation of parameters, validation of models), and illustrate them with something that is simple and practical, but has limitations. (This is not a Topnet course, and will not address spatially-distributed modelling). Read more about Hydrological Modelling – Lumped Catchment Models

Outlook - February to April 2010
Over the coming three months, mean sea level pressures are likely to be above normal to the north of the country, with a slightly enhanced west or southwest flow anomaly over New Zealand. Temperatures are expected to be average or below average everywhere. Rainfall is likely to be normal or below normal over the north of the North Island, below normal in the east of the North Island, and normal or above normal in the west and south of the South Island. Normal rainfall is expected elsewhere. Read more about Outlook - February to April 2010
Global Setting – January 2010
El Niño conditions are well-established, and are expected to persist at moderate intensity before weakening during the autumn. Over the coming three months, mean sea level pressures are likely to be above normal to the north of the country, with a slightly enhanced west or southwest flow anomaly over New Zealand. GEOHAB 2010
GEOHAB (Marine Geological and Biological Habitat Mapping) annual forum brings together 80-120 geologists, biologists, acousticians, statistician, spatial analysts and environmental managers from around the world who are developing new methods and procedures to link remotely sensed data with seafloor geology and marine biology within a geo-spatial environment. GEOHAB provides a truly multidisciplinary and exciting forum for exchange of knowledge and ideas all underpinning sustainable ocean management. Read more about GEOHAB 2010
