Kingfish farm opens

New Zealand’s only land-based kingfish farm was opened late last year in the Far North. The $10 million facility is owned and operated by the Parengarenga Incorporation.
NIWA supplies the farm with fingerlings, spawned at our Bream Bay Aquaculture Park. We are developing an out-ofseason broodstock to spread production, and are working with the farm on R&D thanks to a Technology for Business Growth grant from the Foundation for Research, Science & Technology’s business unit, Technology New Zealand.
