Hydrological Modelling – Lumped Catchment Models

The course will introduce the principles and application of lumped catchment modelling. It will include both flood and recession modelling, and will take a simple approach, the sort of thing you could do in a spreadsheet. It will include snow melt, rainfall-runoff, and simple flow routing. It will not use an off-the-shelf modelling tool. The purpose of the course is to discuss principles that are relevant to a variety of modelling approaches (suitability of model approach to available data, process representation, estimation of parameters, validation of models), and illustrate them with something that is simple and practical, but has limitations. (This is not a Topnet course, and will not address spatially-distributed modelling).
