New sponge posters at Kelly Tarlton’s

Science Centres: Aquatic Biodiversity and Biosecurity

A new series of five posters on marine sponges is now on display in the link corridor of Kelly Tarlton’s Underwater World in Auckland. The posters, which were produced by NIWA’s National Centre for Aquatic Biodiversity & Biosecurity, celebrate the life of New Zealand’s sponges. Reading them, you discover what a sponge is, how they reproduce, how to classify them, and other amazing facts. The final poster shows ‘a bouquet’ of some of New Zealand’s beautiful marine species.

The development of these posters is part of NIWA’s ongoing collaboration with Kelly Tarlton’s Underwater World. NIWA initially sponsored the children’s Marine Discovery Room at Kelly Tarlton’s, and this relationship has now developed further to include designing a series of posters to display and teach things ‘marine’. A single large poster, combining elements of the smaller posters, is presently under development for general release through NIWA’s Centre for Aquatic Biodiversity & Biosecurity. NIWA plans to produce similar posters on other aquatic invertebrates and algae.
